About Pend Oreille County

Archeologists have found evidence that humans inhabited the area where the county was located about 11,000 years ago. However, by the time Europeans arrived to Washington, it was home to the Pend d’Oreilles tribe, which the county was named after. The other tribe in the area was the Kalispeis, who resisted Christian protestants who were trying to convert them to Christianity.
