Do I need flood insurance?

The FHA and USDA require flood insurance on properties in Special Flood Hazard Areas. There are flood areas along the bay and river beds, and in some of the more sparsely-populated areas of the unincorporated county and even southern Fremont. That being said, much of the urban space and hill land is located in areas that are at low risk for flooding. Your agent can help you check if a specific property needs flood insurance.

How to Buy a Home in Alameda County
